Debbie has owned and trained Rottweilers since 1985 and started dog training when she got her first Rottweiler puppy. Two years later she was sufficiently hooked on obedience for the club to start training her to become an instructor. In 1989 she attended a residential training course with the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers and attained her 2nd grade with Honours.

Since then Debbie has attended numerous courses, lectures and seminars by leading dog trainers and behaviourists including Dr Ian Dunbar and Gail Fisher.

Along with friend and fellow instructor Tina Fraser, Debbie ran Barks Dog Training Club for many years, specialising in two main areas – puppy socialisation and behavioural problems.  She earned an excellent reputation for her clear communication skills and ability to motivate both dog and handler.

Debbie now offers a limited number of private training sessions for puppies and older dogs, using positive reinforcement through clicker training. Problem dogs are her speciality. Her own dogs have been clicker trained for both competitive obedience, agility and for fun.

"Clicker training is so simple for the dog to understand and is extremely helpful to those people who find it hard to communicate with their pets. Clicker training is based on operative conditioning – simply put, animals (and people) will repeat an action that has a positive consequence."
